Post Surgery

Post Surgery, originally uploaded by liz kerrison.

We got news that we needed to operate on Paddington’s right leg right away. She had her surgery on Wednesday December 19th and we picked her up from the vet on Thursday evening and she was really scared and dazed. Thursday night was ok but Friday she had a terrible day. She was in a lot of pain and whenever she was awake, she would cry. I called the vet and she was able to give me an additional painkiller that we gave her in the evening and this morning she is feeling a lot better. She is moving around a bit more and is giving lots of kisses – something she didn’t do at all yesterday. it was really hard yesterday and i’m so relieved that she is feeling better.

The left image is of her stitches and shaved leg – she kind of looks like a chinese crested on that side!Even though she is only using three legs to get around at the moment, she is still really really fast! we’ll have to work hard at slowing her down. She has to wear her cone because she is relentless at licking and we can’t trust her when she’s right beside us not to! that’s our stubborn little girl!

Bad News

Bad News, originally uploaded by liz kerrison.

We took Paddington to the vet yesterday and got some bad news.

We’ve been informed that she has luxating patellas in both her hind legs. it means her knee caps are loose and moving around, causing her pain. we took her to the vet to check out a limp that developed about a month ago and thought it might be that, but i was really surprised to hear it’s BOTH knees are going to have to be fixed.

the vet has to call a specialist who will tell us if we can do both at the same time, or if it will be done in 2 parts so she will likely need 2 surgeries.

she’s never been really able to jump very high and never liked stairs, and now we have found out that this is likely the reason.

it’s stressful and i’m worried about her, but she will have a better life after the surgeries.

poor little girl.
